OVERVIEW
- GBOF is a voluntary body established in late 2010 by a group of Coal Seam Gas (CSG) explorers in the Galilee Basin in Queensland’s central west.
- All members of GBOF hold Government-issued Authorities to Prospect (ATP) for Petroleum and are focused on CSG or conventional petroleum exploration.
- The key focus of the group is to lead and co-ordinate groundwater studies in the region. This co-operative approach has been designed to facilitate consistency of data collection methodology and terminology across the various permits in the future.
The group engaged RPS www.rpsgroup.com.au to undertake a baseline water assessment report. This was intended to establish the data currently readily available; provide a regional understanding of the aquifers and their use for bore water supplies; identify areas where information is lacking; and will hopefully in the future provide the groundwork for the development of a hydrogeological model for the Galilee Basin.
This co-operative approach has been designed to facilitate consistency of data collection methodology and terminology across the various permits in the future.

The Galilee Basin Operators’ Forum comprises eight foundation member companies. Two additional member companies subsequently joined and have been included in the RPS Hydrogeological Study. The group first met in April 2010.
